What is a Mother Blessing ceremony?

A mother blessing ceremony is a one of a kind sacred circle to celebrate the mother-to-be

I have been doing ceremonies for over a decade -- such as wedding ceremonies, baby blessing ceremonies and goddess circle ceremonies. So when 3 different mothers asked me to perform a mother’s blessing ceremony, I knew it was time to be of service in this way. It just makes senses, since I am a Minister & Priestess, I love everything about celebrating women, and to celebrate motherhood in this way is so sacred.

I am a mother of 4, and I know first had how important it is to feel supported during pregnancy.

I believe that every woman deserves to be celebrated as she enters into the next phase of her life as a mother. The transition from being pregnant to becoming a new mom can be difficult at times, so it is important for us to support each other through these transitions with love and compassion. This ritual will help you connect with your mothering energy as well as allowing you to receive blessings from other women who are also mothers or soon-to-be mothers themselves!

A Mother’s Blessing Ceremony, also known as a blessing way, it is all about nurturing, honoring and supporting the mother to be. This ritual is derived from an old Navajo (Native American) ceremony, which celebrates a woman’s rite of passage into motherhood.

If you are looking for a special and unique present to give to a dear pregnant friend, or why not: to yourself, then you have come to the right place. You are worthy of celebrating!

A mother blessing focuses on the extraordinary transformation a woman is making when she dedicates her mind, body, and soul to the journey from maidenhood to motherhood. The focus is not on what's coming next (the baby), but rather on who has arrived (the mother).

What Happens at a Mother Blessing?

A Mother Blessing involves a gathering of the mother-to-be’s most trusted friends and family, who sit in the power of a sacred circle and share amongst one another. Traditionally it is a woman-only gathering and may include her mother, sisters, aunts, daughters, best of friends, mentors — anyone she respects, looks up to or values. This is not done during the baby shower, this is a separate more intimate event. Usually takes place 4-6 weeks before the due date.

A Mother’s Blessing Ceremony is a great way to assist the mother to be, preparing her for the birth, emotionally, spiritually and mentally.  She feels ‘held’ and supported by those she loves and respects, which also assists her to  release any fears or blockages she may be feeling. A Mother Blessing creates a beautiful atmosphere of peace, love and nurturing the mother to be. Thus, creating peace of mind and a sense of community, like the saying goes “it takes a village to raise a child”, this is the first step. Assisting the mother to be, so she can have the strength, love and support of her chosen village. When women come together, great things happen. Hearing other women’s birth stories as you share around the circle can be surprising, exciting and heartwarming to hear. It can be very affirming, empowering and up lifting. It doesn’t matter what religion (if any) the mother is — a Mother Blessing honors all belief systems.
